Congratulations to PSS Systems Manager Myles Gowen on being approved by the Institute of Measurement and Control as a Registered Functional Safety Engineer (RFSE).

As one of only 22 RFSE, this award shows both Myles’ and Process Safety Solutions commitment to Functional Safety.

Process Safety Solutions provide specialist Functional Safety services relating to the maintenance, support and modification of Safety Instrument Systems in line with the requirements of IEC61511 including;

  • Verification
  • SIS Design and Engineering
  • SIS application program development
  • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  • SIS installation and commissioning
  • SIS Safety Validation
  • Operation and Maintenance
  • Modification
  • Information and Documentation Requirements

To become approved as a RFSE, engineers, through peer review, must satisfy the following requirements which include demonstration of competence & commitment:

  1. Registration with the Engineering Council as CEng in demonstration of professional competence in accordance with UK-SPEC. This in turn is held to demonstrate underpinning knowledge and understanding (UK&U) and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  2. Demonstration of at least an aggregate of 3 years’ diverse and direct experience in functional safety matters at a professional level.
  3. Demonstration of a comprehensive knowledge of related standards and good practice in functional safety.
  4. Demonstration of on-going (not prospective or historical), and competent engagement with functional safety matters at a professional level.
  5. Demonstration of Continuing Professional Development specific to functional safety
